# 100 Years of Extension’s Cultivation

A hundred years ago, when farmers across Maryland were isolated from each other, the Maryland Cooperative Extension Service was created to share vital information about agriculture and homemaking. Now the [University of Maryland Extension](http://www.extension.umd.edu/), based in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, has a much broader focus, offering education and support on topics such as health and wellness and environmental preservation. Here’s a look at its century of service:
