Alums Offer Tips on Pre-Graduation Rituals
With commencement ceremonies on campus beginning on Saturday, UMD graduates-to-be have just a few short days left to soak in the Terp experience. We asked alums to suggest a few last to-do items on any UMD bucket list.
While we omitted the less immediately practical ideas, such as sledding in mid-May on a dining hall tray, the Class of 2017 can still make a few more uniquely Maryland memories:
• Snap a photo in front of the M Circle in your cap and gown.
• Sunbathe on La Plata Beach. (Leave the baby oil at home, people. This isn’t 1981.)
• Search unsuccessfully for your unreturned library books. Panic. Then find and drop them off. While you’re at it, pay your parking fines.
• Take a selfie with President Loh. Ask him for a terrapin pin.
• Run the steps at Maryland Stadium.
• Visit Adele’s to empty the Trough: a giant glass bowl full of ice cream, brownies and sundae toppings. (The brave can attempt this alone, the realistic may need a partner.)
• Jump in the ODK Fountain. Good thing it’s warm this week, right?
• Give the Testudo statue outside McKeldin Library one final nose-rub.
• Step on a crack at the Point of Failure. You’re safe now!
