# Civic Engagement on the Move

*Led by L.A. muralist Corie Mattie ‘12, Honors Humanities students create a mobile, 8’ by 8’  interactive mural celebrating democracy called “Terps Take Action.” Students paint the mural in in the basement of Anne Arundel Hall on April 2, 2026.

A new mural designed and created by Terps [will mobilize social action](https://today.umd.edu/a-moving-artistic-ode-to-democracy)—literally. California street artist Corie Mattie ’12 worked with Honors Humanities students in the spring to design and create the mobile mural, called “Terps Take Action.” Featuring an image of Testudo with a megaphone and spray paint can, as well as a customizable QR code, the mural will be deployed starting this fall to events like blood drives, EarthFest and TerpsVote programs. The project was inspired by UMD’s selection of the U.S. Constitution as the 2025-26 First Year Book; [this year’s selection](https://fyb.umd.edu/) is also tied to America’s 250th: the New York Times bestseller “How to Hide an Empire: A History of the Greater United States” by Daniel Immerwahr.
