# Crowd(funding) Control

*June 10, 2014*

Your extra $10 is more powerful than you think, thanks to the booming trend of crowdfunding. Instead of one person giving $10 million to a cause, now a million people with $10 can do a lot of good. Joe Bailey, a research associate professor of finance and executive director of the [QUEST](http://www.http//www.rhsmith.umd.edu/programs/undergraduate-programs/academics/fellows-special-programs/quest) honors program, walks us through how pooling our money can turn a mini-investor into a movie producer, a banker, a mortgage lender, a venture capitalist or a philanthropist.
