Between the smoky grills, soggy games of cornhole and the red canopies protecting Terps from the rain, another (and fancier-dressed) group of revelers gathered before October’s Homecoming football game to toast a victory: the wedding of Alex Kin ’08 and Sarah Tostanoski ’09.
The pair originally met as undergrads when they helped found an informal UMD Athletics fan club known as the Red Army, so it was only fitting, if unconventional, that they’d celebrate their marriage during the most spirited week of the year.
“Our first date was at a Maryland football practice, and we met up again in our adult life at tailgates,” says Tostanoski.
The couple exchanged vows in a family-only ceremony at their home in Washington, D.C., while the rest of the guests got the food, drinks and Maryland spirit flowing under a white tent set up in Lot 1. Once Kin and Tostanoski arrived, the party kicked into high gear, with a gaming station featuring the groom’s beloved Nintendo 64 and a UMD-themed gift basket delivered by President Darryll J. Pines.
The newlyweds capped off their wedding day with an impromptu visit to their old apartment in Knox Towers, where the current tenants let them snap photos for a different kind of homecoming.
