Conference Impact to Extend Across Campus

On July 1, the university officially joins the Big Ten Conference, with team competition beginning in the fall. While the most visible elements of the move will be on the football field, basketball court and other sports facilities, this is more than a change in athletic conferences. “It’s an institution-wide integration with the Big Ten and the CIC,” the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, the conference’s academic arm, says UMD President Wallace Loh. “Arts, academics, research—all will be enhanced by this move.” Read on—and see more at umd.edu/THINKB1G to discover where the B1G changes are taking place.
