I enjoy reading Terp magazine and The Shell because they both share positive and optimistic articles. E-mails from the University President, on the other hand, are uniformly depressing and ridiculous. This coddling of students with their "safe spaces" is an embarrassment. This is not the UM I remember where I learned how to become an adult and deal with difficult people and difficult situations. Thankfully, as articles in Terp show, not all the students and faculty are immature whiners.
An illegal trade in animals is booming worldwide. Now, a UMD conservation criminologist is turning to artificial intelligence to snare smugglers and expose their networks.
