Coincidentally, I did a story on a fairly new vineyard in Washington County, Big Cork Vineyard, for The Delmarva Farmer (agricultural) newspaper, last month. Beautiful place with dining rooms, a great menu and beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Grapes are diverse and the varieties are more numerous than most realize. The wine world IS a lot bigger than just merlot and chardonnay. There's no reason why Maryland shouldn't become known as a great wine state.

There's a host of people that love and support the MD Wine industry and Joe is backbone of this support! I've worked with Joe and have witness his passion for viticulture, wine making, and tasting to a room full of industry professionals and to volunteers at wine events alike! Thanks Joe! This article is well deserved!

Thanks to people like Joe and Kevin, the Maryland wine industry has exploded and grown very quickly in size and quality. We now know what varieties are well-suited for our climate and soils, and our winemakers know how to work with the local grapes to produce exceptional, high quality wines. This is a process that takes decades to finesse, and Maryland is there. I can't wait to see, and taste, what comes from our 65+ wineries in the following years.
