Well done. Nice insight to that community. I'm a 1994 grad with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, and lucky to have a family residence in Deale, on the other side of the bay. But these forces definitely seem more pronounced on the Deal Island side. Haven't visited there, but been to Crisfield several times, and even recently cruised out to Tangier Island. These communities are all well worth the time and effort to help navigate the future.

Wonderful article! Keep going with this very important work! Dr. Paolisso and his staff do a great job interacting with local people to accomplish this research and it's results. It is a privilege to have their valuable knowledge and effort serving our community!

I really enjoyed this article and want to know more about the Minnie V Skipjack. Does Stoney Whitlock still own it and how could I contact him? Does he take passengers out for sails?

This is a beautiful peaceful place. We chose to move here and are blessed to know David Webster, Arby and Debby Holland, Stoney Whitelock and so many others, both "from heres" and "come heres". The skipjack, Katherine, offers summer sails and can be seen on the sound dredging for oysters under sail occasionally. Hard working people - earning a living and preserving a bit of the past.

Lived there until we moved in the sixties to Salisbury, MD. Many good memories of the area. Loved to go fishing with my dad when he worked with then was Tidewater Fisheries and now named Dept. of Natural Resources. He also became Capt. of the then MD State Yacht “The Potomac “
